Developer-standard or turnkey? Three finishing models.

Finishing an apartment can be done several ways. Each has a different cost, a different timeline and a different impact on when you actually move in.

Finishing an apartment can be done several ways. Each has a different cost, a different timeline and a different impact on when you actually move in.

Finishing isn’t a single product but a family of solutions. The choice depends on the budget, on how much time you have to coordinate trades, and on how much you care about a unique interior of your own.

Three models

  • Developer standard — you take the unit with plaster and screed, and arrange the finishing yourself
  • The developer’s finishing package — you choose from ready-made sets of materials and standards
  • Turnkey, ready to go — you move into a finished apartment, with no trades to coordinate

Each affects differently the moment you move in, the total cost and how many decisions you have to make on your own.

The most common mistake is choosing a model "because a friend did", without counting your own time. Developer standard that pays off for someone with a builder in the family can be costly for someone working twelve-hour days.
